The No. 4-ranked team in America, Ole Miss, is a multifaceted challenge for Georgia on Saturday. The Bulldogs are playing host to the unbeaten Rebels at 3:30 p.m.

ESPN’s College Gameday will set the stage on Saturday morning. There has already been a challenge issued by Georgia head coach Kirby Smart to the fans of Georgia football.

The Lane Kiffin team has Smart’s attention for a long list of reasons. He pointed to the offense first on Monday with the media.

Ole Miss’ offense ranks is second in the SEC in yards per game. They’re second in passing yards per game. The Rebels are fifth in rushing yards per game in the SEC.

The quarterback position is again a key to Ole Miss and its offensive approach. Trinidad Chambliss has taken over the starting job from Austin Simmons, and he’s run with it.

The Ferris State transfer has thrown for 1,286 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s also run for 286 yards and three touchdowns.

Georgia has dual-threat challenge in Ole Miss QB

Smart complements Chambliss’ ability to be the complete package as a runner and passer.

“He’s explosive,” Smart told reporters on Monday. “He is quick and he’s fast. He’s tough and has a great lower body. Great instincts. There’s a difference in being a fast guy and being a runner. He’s patient behind blocks, quick when he needs to be. Some guys can only run perimeter runs well. Some can only run internal well. He runs both. He does a great job in the draw game, sets up blocks, and he’s a good passer.”

Ole Miss also features the second-leading rusher in the SEC, Kewan Lacy. Smart was complimentary of the Sophomore running back’s explosiveness. Chambliss’ contribution to Ole Miss’s run has elevated Lacy’s production as well.

“He becomes more effective because of the quarterback,” Smart said. “He becomes more effective because of the tempo. They use tempo. They go really fast and wear people down. You get lots of snaps against them. We’ve had a lot of practice getting a lot of snaps, that’s for sure, defensively. They get lots of snaps. They wear you down. He’s a good back. He’s vertical, sideways, catches the ball, explosive. Really good player.”

Rebels’ defensive front an impressive one as well

Georgia was defeated by Ole Miss 28-10 in Oxford in 2024. The Ole Miss defensive line was a standout in that game. The Rebels sacked Carson Beck five times. Smart feels the Rebels’ defensive line is going to be a challenge once again.

“Really impressive again,” Smart said. “I’ve gotten the time to watch about four or five offensive games yesterday of Ole Miss and only got through two defensive games. Pretty impressive, to be honest with you. They’re very disruptive, constantly moving, causing havoc and problems, and movement. Disruptive. They’ve got a couple of the best inside guys we’ve seen.”

This year is this year

Last season’s loss in Oxford isn’t on Smart’s mind. The Bulldogs defeated Ole Miss at home in 2023.

“Not a big revenge guy,” Smart said. “They could have said that last year about us because they came here and played the year before. I’m big into what gets us to play our best, and that usually comes from intrinsic stuff for me, not looking in the past. Those teams were different teams. This team’s a different team.”
