The week after Georgia’s starting running back, Nate Frazier, fumbled against Alabama and gave way to Chauncey Bowens that night and the next week, Kirby Smart remained confident in the sophomore.

He repeatedly said in different ways that Georgia would need Frazier again. Smart also credited Frazier’s work ethic.

“He’s working hard,” Smart told reporters the week after the Alabama game. “He always works hard. You don’t really necessarily change how somebody works, right? They work hard, they work hard, and we appreciate that. There’s not a week that we go out there that we don’t talk about, emphasize turnovers, ball security, and those things. I don’t think there’s a team in the country that’s not repping and practicing ball security. So it’s something that he’s gotta overcome. He’s gotta play with confidence, and it comes with habits.”

His teammate, Bowens gave Frazier his own vote of confidence going into the game against Auburn.

“That’s my brother, on and off the field,” Bowens told reporters two weeks ago. “So I look out for him, and things like that. I know you said you believe it could be a mental issue. But, I don’t think it’s that. I think it just happened to be an unfortunate place where you have the ball against Alabama. And the guy just made a really good hit. Stuff like that is bound to happen as a running back. And as we’ve seen, he’s really great, really electric. He’s an awesome player and an awesome guy to be around. So I don’t think it’s gonna be anything that you have to worry about in the future in terms of that. He’s worked really hard, and he’s practiced and done everything that we want him to do. So I’m looking forward to him being able to go out there and execute.”

Frazier has seemingly rebounded this week. He only ran for 24 yards in Georgia’s win over Auburn. Frazier was Georgia’s leading rusher on Saturday as the Bulldogs rallied to defeat Ole Miss in Athens.

Frazier ran for 72 yards on 17 carries. He also caught two passes, one of which went for a touchdown. Frazier has been more natural as a runner.

Smart credited Frazier’s aggression following the game.

“More aggressive, less thinking,” Smart said after Saturday’s game. “You know, he had some strip-outs in this game last year. He’s concerned about it. I thought he had some big runs. Killer was the third… and the one that we could ice the game. We thought we had it. We missed a block. I wanted Nate to hit that and ice the game. But I think we missed a guy on that one. But I’m really impressed with what Nate’s done.”
