The Week 12 AP Poll is out and Georgia is hanging tight in that No. 5 spot. The Bulldogs have maintained that position for a few straight weeks since beating Ole Miss, now ranked No. 6 last month.

Ohio State is still in the No. 1 slot followed by Indiana at No. 2. The Hoosiers got a dramatic victory over Penn State in Week 11 to stay undefeated. Texas A&M, the SEC’s only undefeated team, is No. 3 followed by Alabama, the only team to beat Georgia this season, at No. 4. The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide are the nation’s top two one-loss teams.

Georgia is coming off it’s eighth win of the season and one of its most impressive. The Bulldogs went to Starkville, Miss. and beat a scrappy Mississippi State team 41-21. UGA fell behind 7-0 before scoring 38 unanswered points and putting the Maroon Bulldogs away.

“I’m proud of our guys,” Kirby Smart said after the game. “I thought that was a total team effort, really tough place to play. I have a lot of respect for Jeff. I told him before the game. His team has played valiantly all year. They’ve been in every game they’ve played. They’re well-coached. They got talented skilled players.

“They’re a good football team, and this is a tough place to play, guys. You fly over and land, and the hour time change. And you get to the hotel, you’re there at seven, you’re in a meeting at eight. The players got up yesterday at 6:30 at home. Had to eat a pre-game meal at 6:50 with a wake up call at 6:30 AM. There’s a lot of hurdles. Hour bus ride from Tupelo to here. It’s tough, and I thought they navigated that really well. We had good leadership this week. Our players believe in the way we practice, and that conditioning level was huge today. It was hot. It was way hotter than we expected. I told them during the week, I thought this might be like Tennessee or Kentucky, and it would affect both teams because you’re not used to playing in that kind of weather in November. I thought we were well conditioned. And we ran the ball and we stopped the run, so that was two big things. I’m proud of our guys.”

Georgia still has two huge contests left on the schedule and one will take place in Week 12. The Bulldogs play host to No. 10 Texas at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday (ABC). They’re currently favored by 6.5 points. Another top 15 awaits to end the regular season when UGA takes on Georgia Tech inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 14.
