Georgia takes step toward postseason with season finale win

Athens, Ga – Georgia got Texas A&M’s best shot, stumbled and delivered the knockout blow on Saturday at Foley Field. Georgia won the series against the Aggies with a 7-5 win in game three on Saturday.
The Bulldogs’ offense awakened once again. Georgia’s bats produced seven runs and 11 hits. Most of the damage came in the second half of the game. Georgia got two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh before closing things out over the last two innings.
The Big Moment
Georgia saw its lead evaporate twice on Saturday. The Bulldogs took it back for good in the bottom of the seventh. Georgia was able to work the bases loaded. From there, a Ryan Black single drove in a run to take the lead. Ryland Zaborowski’s single plated two more two batters later.
Top Performers
Georgia got a few standout performances at the plate. Zaborowski returned to the lineup on Saturday for the first time since April 26, when he suffered an elbow injury playing defense.
Zaborowski made a splash with a 2-for-4 outing. He drove in two runs and scored a run for Georgia.
Slate Alford added his 17th home run of the season with a two-run shot in the fifth inning.
Georgia got a good start from pitcher Leighton Finley. He did not get credited with the win, but Finley threw six innings, allowed three hits, and struck out seven hitters. Finley’s three walks were the hang-up on his performance. One of those walks turned into one of the two runs he allowed.
The Big Picture
Georgia’s win brings their final record to 42-14 and 18-12 in SEC play. Georgia will wait for the season finales of Vanderbilt and LSU to finish before their final seeding for the SEC Tournament can be determined.

Based on those two games, the Bulldogs can be as high as the No. 3 seed but could be no lower than the fifth seed.
Georgia will now shift its attention to winning a trophy in Hoover and beyond. Georgia head coach Wes Johnson took a moment to reflect on his 2025 team. The Bulldogs began practicing at Athens Academy in the winter as Foley Field underwent renovation.
The Bulldogs also faced the third toughest SEC schedule. They came out of it with 18 wins and what Johnson believes is a resume worthy of being a top eight national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
“We’ve had a third-hardest SEC schedule inside the league,” Johnson told reporters. “I’m very, very proud of our guys. It takes a lot of resilience. You guys know you’ve covered this league,18 wins in this league is really, really hard. It doesn’t happen every year, and when you get there, yeah, it’s good.”
Play will begin in Hoover on Tuesday.
