Georgia WR Ladd McConkey dressed, appears ready to play vs. Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. — It appears as if Georgia will get Ladd McConkey back on the field for it’s week five contest with Auburn. McConkey made the trip to The Plains for the 128th playing of The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry and he’s dressed out for the game. He is also a full participant in pregame warmup.
McConkey has missed the first four games of Georgia’s 2023 season with back spasms/tightness. It first became a known issue on August 23 when, during a Wednesday media-viewing period, the junior wideout was absent. Smart spoke to reporters the following Monday and indicated that McConkey was good to go for the season opener.
The eighth-year head coach said that they had shut McConkey down for a couple of days with back tightness and they expected him to be fine. When McConkey missed that game, Smart told reporters that he felt fine up until the night before the game where he began experiencing the same discomfort.
That was the case going into Ball State week and the medical staff elected to shut him down. Smart made it known on the Monday before the South Carolina game that McConkey would not play and that he would be resting.

Brock Bowers was Georgia’s leading pass catcher last season, ranking No. 1 in receptions and receiving yards. McConkey, however, was tops among the wideouts with 58 grabs for 762 yards and seven scores. McConkey added seven rushing attempts for 134 yards and two scores. Two of his receiving scores came in the 65-7 National Championship win over TCU. He also caught a two-point conversion in Georgia’s win over Ohio State in the Peach Bowl.
Without McConkey, Georgia has leaned on Bowers in the passing game this year. He’s the leader in receiving yards and receptions, bringing down 16 catches in the past two games. The Bulldogs have also utilized transfer wideouts Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett heavily, as well as junior wideout Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint.
