Jalon Walker feels prepared for NFL after juggling jobs at Georgia

Butkus Award winning linebacker Jalon Walker got a crash course on football during his time at Georgia. Walker went into Georgia with his eyes on playing the ‘mike’ linebacker position.

He did a little bit of everything in his time at Georgia. The versatility is one of the traits that has him considered as one of the premier defensive players in this spring’s NFL Draft.

Teams have given Walker consistent feedback on what he brings to the table.

“The way I can play,” Walker told reporters after Pro Day on Wednsday. “The versatility role that I have here, it translates a lot to their game in the NFL. Obviously, to be a Swiss Army (is what they want from me).”

Walker is considered a unique player in that he can play multiple positions well.

” A lot of people are versatile,” Walker told reporters. “But a lot of people can’t do it well. I feel like I have the range and the confidence in myself to do each position at a great deal. If I play inside backer, I’ll be a great inside backer. If I play outside backer, just outside backer, I’ll be a great outside backer. But together, there’s a lot of people that just can’t be good enough

How did Walker balance his weekly responsibilities?

He took really good notes and he leaned heavily on Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann.

“I was fortunate enough that Coach Schumann, is our DC.” Walker said. “So all of the roles and jobs that I needed to know were right there. I sit there in my notebook, okay, this is what the inside backers have, this is what the outside backers have, this is what the star has. It takes a lot, mental fortitude, I feel like I attacked it in the right way. You just gotta be disciplined in making sure you know what you’re doing and taking the time to understand what you’re doing, because it’s something that you know that you’ve got to understand to make a faster process of.”
