Kirby Smart offers injury update on Georgia RB Kenny McIntosh

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia had to finish its unimpressive 39-22 win over Kent State Saturday without the services of Kenny McIntosh. The senior tailback limped off the field in the fourth quarter and did not return. Kirby Smart was asked about McIntosh after the game where he revealed that it was an aggravation of previous injury and offered what appeared to be a positive update.
“He had a thigh contusion going into the game and he said he got hit on that same thigh again,” Smart said after the win. “They did a good job of cut tackling, they chopped us some. Several guys got hit low on the tackles there, and they do a good job being forceful with it. We had, I think, three or four guys coming out of the last game with thigh contusions, which Kenny has that as well. But we think he’s going to be fine.”
Kenny McIntosh left the field after a five-yard run where he was hit hard on the upper thigh. The senior tailback initially went into the injury tent but didn’t spend much time in there. He came out and spoke with Georgia head of sports medicine Ron Courson before getting on the stationary bike for a few minutes.
Saturday’s game say Kenny McIntosh 44 rushing yards on nine carries. He added six catches for 35 yards. He leads Georgia in receptions with 21 on the season and now has 227 receiving yards which ranks him second on the team behind Brock Bowers.
Kenny McIntosh has seen action in all four of his seasons as a Bulldog. He was a major receiving weapon for Georgia late last season. He finished the season with 22 carries 242 yards and two touchdowns. Kenny McIntosh also pitched in with 58 carries for 330 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown pass in Georgia’s blowout victory over Michigan in the Orange Bowl.

The Bulldog run game was quite productive with Kenny McIntosh playing most of the game. Georgia got 77 yards on just two carries from Bowers. He also had two rushing touchdowns. Daijun Edwards had his best game of the year with 12 carries for 73 yards. Stetson Bennett IV and Kendall Milton also added rushing touchdowns.
As a team Georgia had 41 carries for 257 yards and four scores. If you take out Bowers’ production and the kneel down at the end of the game, the Bulldogs averaged over 4.7 yards per carry and that includes two sets of downs on the final drive.
The Bulldogs have gone over 200 rushing yards two weeks in a row after not getting to that point in either of the first two games of the season.
In other injury news, Smart says that redshirt sophomore wide receiver Ladd McConkey has been battling a foot injury. Sophomore wideout AD Mitchell did not dress out for the Kent State game and junior defensive tackle Jalen Carter was limited to a lower snap count during the contest.
