Georgia’s two starting offensive tackles, Monroe Freeling and Earnest Greene, are both now dealing with their injuries simultaneously.

Greene has been out since the first few drives of Georgia’s opener against Marshall. He returned briefly for Georgia’s win over Tennessee but was forced out of that game as well.

Freeling went down with an ankle injury last weekend against Kentucky. Freeling’s prognosis has been more positive than many expected after he did not return to Saturday’s game after his injury.

“Monroe’s has an ankle that’s probably not as severe as we thought,” Kirby Smart told reporters on Monday. “He’s not having any kind of surgery or anything. We’re hopeful to get him back this week; we just have to wait and see. He’s not going to be able to do a lot today, but we think there’s a chance he’ll be able to go.”

Smart provided another update on Wednesday that Freeling is working on a potential fast return on Saturday night at Auburn.

“Monroe’s been able to do a little bit,” Smart told reporters on the weekly SEC teleconference. “He’s been able to run and work out and do some things. But it’s still going to be more like today, tomorrow, we find more out. He has been moving around on it and running on it, and doing some on-air things. But obviously, the requirement it takes to be able to strain and play at this level, we gotta find out if he’s able to do that.”

Greene has continued to battle his back issue. Smart stated earlier this week that Greene would be ‘working out’ with the team this week.

Smart says Greene has been able to move around a bit in practice so far this week.

“He’s running, moving around, been able to do some pass sets and do some indie (individual) stuff, and just continues to get better,” Smart said.

Georgia will face Auburn at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
