Kirby Smart reveals Jahzare Jackson's status with Georgia football team after recent arrest

ATHENS, Ga. — Mammoth offensive tackle Jahzare Jackson is currently being disciplined by the Georgia football program but he’s also still with the team. Kirby Smart spoke with reporters about the 6-foot-10 tackle on the first day of preseason camp.
“He’s being disciplined internally but he’s with the team,” Smart said of Jackson on Thursday.
Jackson was arrested earlier this month on multiple marijuana-related charges. One of those was a felony as the sophomore lineman was in possession of more than one ounce of cannabis. According to the police report, he had roughly three ounces on him when he was stopped. He was also charged with holding/supporting a cell phone and possession of other marijuana paraphernalia.
The 2024 season was Jackson’s first season playing the sport since middle school. He appeared in all 14 of Georgia’s games, mostly on the field goal and extra-point protection teams. Jackson also saw some action at offensive tackle as a reserve.
This spring saw him split reps with Bo Hughley at left tackle while Monroe Freeling was on the shelf with labrum surgery. Hughley started the G-Day game at left tackle. Jackson was with the twos during the first two quarters of action, but he started second half with the ones.

Georgia beat out Florida for Jackson’s signature during the summer prior to last season. After spending his high-school career focusing on basketball at Overtime Elite and even entering the NFL Draft, Jackson decided that his long-term future was on the gridiron rather than the hardwood. He worked out for a number of programs with both the Bulldogs and Gators tossing their hats into the ring.
Jackson enrolled at Georgia prior to the start of the 2024 season and the buzz picked up quickly. The Bulldogs place a premium on size and length on the offensive line, and he checks both boxed emphatically.
