Kirby Smart seeing high level play from Alabama QB Ty Simpson

Georgia and Kirby Smart will get a different version of Alabama’s offense than it has seen in the last two meetings. The pilot is going to be different for Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb this time around.
Jalen Milroe put up 374 yards, two touchdowns, and rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns in last year’s matchup that ended in a 41-34 Alabama win.
Milroe is now a Seattle Seahawk and Georgia is preparing for new starter Ty Simpson. Through three games, Simpson has thrown for 862 yards and nine touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Kirby Smart talks Ty Simpson
Smart has taken a good look at Simpson in his preparation. Simpson has been quick in his decision-making and is a good enough athlete to be a part of Alabama’s run game.

“He’s a tremendous athlete,” Smart told reporters on Monday. “He played in games last year, and you watch all the snaps he took, and he has 60, 70, 80-yard runs that are running down the field, outrunning good defenses. So he’s a talented player. I would say he’s probably the hottest quarterback right now in all of college football. His two last outings, I don’t know, but I’ve seen an incompletion. The ball does not hit the ground. He’s been accurate. He’s been quick with the ball. They’re really hard to defend because of their skill. They’ve got tremendous skill, receivers, backs, tight ends. But you gotta have a trigger guy that can get those guys the ball, and they do.”
Smart added context to Simpson’s performance in Alabama’s loss to Florida State in the season opener.
“I didn’t realize in the Florida State game,” Smart said. “It was as messy and sloppy as the weather was at times. We were playing a game during that time, so I had no idea until last week you went to watch, and you’re like, okay. It was a rainy, sloppy game. In the other games he’s played, there’s been no sloppiness. I mean, he’s accurate, he’s quick with the ball, he’s a good decision maker, and he’s made some elite throws. So they’re clicking right now offensively.”
