Athens, Ga – Georgia’s football season is upon us. The Bulldogs are set to host Marshall at Sanford Stadium on Saturday. Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m. Eastern. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.

The Bulldogs enter the game with a lot of youth. Head coach Kirby Smart has made it known that 54 percent of Georgia’s roster is first and second-year players. Marshall is in a more transitional state. They lost nearly 70 players and their head coach following the 2024 season. Tony Gibson has taken over with a new cast of characters for the 2025 season.

The Bulldogs enter the opener as a 39-point favorite. Georgia will play a lot of youth on Saturday. The Bulldogs are looking to begin shaping their identity for the 2025 season.

“I want it to take shape right now,” Smart said. “I don’t know what that is just yet. It’s like I didn’t know last year. You don’t really know until you hit a lot of adversity…I would say the day-to-day practice environment, the guys who haven’t played, and maybe guys who have, but haven’t been in leadership roles. You see it in the energy of the day.”

Lawson Luckie spoke on the Bulldogs chasing respect.

“We just want to earn respect,” Georgia tight end Lawson Luckie said on Tuesday. “One thing we’ve been talking about is first impressions. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and that’s Saturday. We want to come out with our hats on fire, play as best as we can, show how connected we are, and show that all this grind we’ve gone through this whole offseason hasn’t been for nothing.”

The Bulldogs have officially announced Gunner Stockton as the starting quarterback for today.

Warm up observations

  • Tight end Jaden Reddell looks good physically. Has slimmed quite a bit. Snatches the football.
  • Was impressed with Ethan Barbour running around in pre-game. He’s more sudden than I think he gets credit for. Ball sticks to his hands.
  • Punter Brett Thorson is in uniform. He’s punting in warm-ups. We’ll see what happens in-game. Smart alluded to Thorson not being quite ready to punt in live action in his presser this week.
  • Cortez Smith is listed as the second-team center. Working with Ryan Puglisi in warmups.
