Athens, Ga – Georgia hosts Texas in Athens on Saturday night. The Longhorns come to Athens sporting a 7-2 record with heavy College Football Playoff implications. The fresh Longhorns had a bye week ahead of Saturday’s game.

Georgia rolled to a 41-21 win over Mississippi State in Starkville last Saturday. Head coach Kirby Smart has a lot of respect for Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.

The two communicate regularly. The Bulldogs know that there is a big match-up ahead.

“We’ll move on to Texas,” Smart told reporters on Monday. “We’ve got a big matchup. A lot of respect for Sark. He’s become a good friend of mine. He does a tremendous job. He’s at one of the premier programs in the country. He’s been successful everywhere he’s been and done a great job, and I enjoy his friendship and look forward to another great matchup on Saturday night.”

Georgia faced a beat Texas twice in 2024. The Bulldogs bested the Longhorns in Austin 30-15 and then again in the SEC Championship Game 22-19 in overtime.

Smart isn’t giving this Georgia team the collar for those wins.

“This team didn’t beat Texas,” Smart said. “Texas hasn’t played this team of ours. So two completely different teams, in my opinion. So it has zero effect on them.”
