Nakobe Dean only doing position drills at Georgia Pro Day due to ‘pec strain’ - Kirby Smart

by:Jack Mathison03/16/22

Nakobe Dean will only do positional drills at Georgia’s Pro Day due to a “pec strain,” per head coach Kirby Smart.

Dean already skipped out on all NFL Combine drills in Indianapolis.

Nakobe Dean weighed in a 5’11, 229 pounds at the combine. The former Bulldog linebacker impressed NFL scouts with his knowledge of the game.

However, several NFL scouts already doubt Dean’s size and testing speed. Many viewed Georgia’s Pro Day as an opportunity for Dean to prove himself.

Regardless of what he does or doesn’t do for scouts in workouts, Dean flashed his speed and strength various times for Georgia over the last three years.

According to Jim Nagy, the Executive Director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl, Nakobe Dean hopes to run and test in mid-April

Nakobe Dean had big shoes to fill coming into Athens.

Outlandish comparisons to Roquan Smith and various other Bulldog legends awaited him.

It’s fair to say that he lived up to the hype.

The linebacker from Horn Lake, Mississippi, racked up 168 total tackles in his Georgia career, including 7.5 sacks.

Nakobe Dean intercepted two passes in the 2021 season. He pulled down a diving grab at Auburn, and returned another for a touchdown against Florida.

Dean was consistently regarded as one of the top linebackers in the nation throughout his college career. He earned the Butkus Award (nations top linebacker) just a year after being named a semifinalist for the award.
