Legendary Georgia running back Nick Chubb is getting a chance to extend his NFL career. According to NFL Network National Analyst Ian Rapoport, Chubb will sign with the Houston Texans. It wraps up a seven-year run with Cleveland.

Chubb tested the free agent market this offseason. After averaging well over 1,200 yards per season through his first five years in the NFL, Chubb sustained the second catastrophic knee injury of his career in 2023. The first came while he was still at Georgia in 2015.

Both times Chubb was able to return the following season but the second time was much tougher. He played in eight games in 2024, carrying the football 102 times for 332 yards and three scores. That’s after seeing action in just two games the year before with 28 totes for 170 yards.

If Chubb is not signed by another team, odds are he will end up back in Cleveland. He certainly has experience putting these types of things behind him. After suffering that injury at Georgia in 2015, Chubb earned the second 1,000-yard season of his career in 2016 without really looking like himself. The 2017 was much better as the Cedartown native piled up 1,385 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 223 carries.

He helped Georgia earn its first SEC title in 12 years. The Bulldogs also made the College Football Playoff for the first time, beat Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl, and made it to the National Championship game. The Browns took him a few months later with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Chubb used the early part of the offseason to show that he was healthy. He made a post on Instagram that featured his jaw-dropping lower-body power.

“They’ve already wrote my ending when I’m just getting started,” Chubb captioned the post. The four-slide post includes three photos and a video. The video showed Chubb squatting what appears to be nearly 600 pounds, that’s after knee reconstruction surgery in 2023. The last of those photos was a shot of Batman watching over Gotham.
