Punter Brett Thorson taking in last season at Georgia: 'Experience of a lifetime'

Georgia punter Brett Thorson is taking nothing for granted. No matter what happens this season, this will be his last season in Athens. Thorson is a senior who is out of eligibility.
He did not have the typical start to the 2025 season. Thorson appears to be back fully from his torn ACL suffered in the SEC Championship Game in December.
Thorson missed the season opener against Marshall. He has punted for Georgia in the last two games and now feels like things are starting to become normal again.
“I’m feeling good physically,” Thorson told reporters on Tuesday. “Obviously, getting back out on the field is the biggest confidence boost of all. So, had a few weeks going now and obviously got a few weeks and the bye, so physically feeling really good, ready to keep going through the season. The process was definitely a slow one. You learn a good amount of patience. When you kind of get frustrated because you feel good, you’ll be able to walk around and live a very normal life, but that last 20 or 30 percent of the, I guess, athleticism that involves the punting is the part you can’t do. So yeah, definitely learned a good amount of patience, but feeling good now.”

Georgia will host Alabama on Saturday. Thorson is in a good mental place, in addition to his growing confidence physically.

“Coming from Australia, I think I’ve always had a really good appreciation for the things I’ve gotten to experience over here,” Thorson said. “Going into this last year, where I know it’s my last, there are no waivers or COVID years or anything I can add to the end of this. Just taking it all in and being extremely appreciative of this opportunity that I’ve had and the opportunities we’re going to have going forward. It’s definitely been an experience of a lifetime.”
Thorson is taking in the moments like Saturday. He will be joined by his family for the game this weekend. His mom, dad, sister and her boyfriend will all make the trip from Australia this week.
Thorson’s mom and dad have been to about five or six games already. His sister has been to a few as well, but it will be her boyfriend’s first game.
” I’m looking forward to experiencing this weekend,” Thorson said. “They’re just about to jump on the plane right now, actually. Getting to share that with them is something we’ll remember forever.
