SEC Expert has glowing comments on the Georgia EDGE situation in 2025

Whether a team can meet or even exceed expectations often depends on its ability to turn perceived weaknesses into a strong points. Georgia has been great at that under Kirby Smart with the most notable examples being the defensive backfield in 2021 and the pass-catching group in 2022.
Cole Cubelic of the SEC Network seems to think that the Bulldogs can do it again in 2025 at the EDGE position. Despite losing some serious talent to the NFL Draft with first-round picks Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker, along with transfer portal departures Damon Wilson (Missouri) and Samuel M’Pemba, Cubelic has high expectations for a pair of Georgia players at the position.
One, Gabe Harris, is going into his third season with the team. The other, Elo Modozie, has been on campus for less than a month after moving from Army to the portal to Georgia.
“You go get Elo Modozie, who we talked about in our impact-transfer list a couple of weeks ago, I think has the ability if he can add eight to 12 pounds before he enters the season, he can be as dominant of an edge defender as there is in this league,” Cubelic on a recent episode of his podcast, The Cube Show. “And trust me, we’re about to get to some real edge guys in the next two groups. He has that kind of twitch, that kind of motor, that kind of ability. He has that kind of just get off and want to. As anybody I’ve seen in the nation, that kid’s got it.”
When Modozie arrived at Army as a member of the 2022 class, he did so as a wide receiver. He had just started playing defense during his final season of high school ball at Bartram Trail in St. Augustine, but no school was willing to sign him as a defensive player.

Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the recruiting process, Modozie was an under-exposed prospect and his options were limited regardless of position. Eventually he successfully lobbied the Army staff into giving him a shot on defense. He spent on season as a nickel defender before adding nearly 30 pounds of good weight and transitioning to an EDGE player. Modozie finished his first season at the position with 6.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, seven quarterback hurries and 34 total stops. Georgia went all out for him when he entered the transfer portal in April.
Then there’s Harris, who is, by far, the Bulldogs’ most experience returning EDGE. While Harris missed spring drills with a shoulder injury and has had to wait his turn behind guys like Williams, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, and Chaz Chambliss, Cubelic loves the way he plays the game.
“And you’re going to add him (Modozie) to a group that already has Gabe Harris, who is like Ram Man on the show ‘He Man,'” Cubelic said of Harris. “He just walks around trying to knock people over with the top of his head, It feels like his helmet is made of concrete when you watch him play football. I love the kid. He’s sitting there playing a three-technique and the guy came in as a damn outside linebacker. How can you not love a kid who goes in there and just wants to play football and wants to punish people every time he gets on the field? I’ll take that every day.”
