Series Primer: Georgia bracing for match up with No. 1 Arkansas

A lot of the attention this weekend on Georgia’s campus could be focused on G-Day on Saturday afternoon.
However, there is a top-five match-up set to commence on the baseball field. Georgia will host No. 1 ranked Arkansas at Foley Field beginning tonight at 6 p.m.
The Razorbacks are the top-ranked team in the D1 Baseball.com rankings. Arkansas comes in riding an eight-game win streak and only one loss in SEC play.
Georgia has a little different set of circumstances. The Bulldogs were swept in Austin last weekend. Texas bested the Bulldogs in all three games in Austin dropping Georgia to 8-4 in SEC play.
Georgia snagged a mid-week win over Presbyterian on Tuesday evening. This shapes up as a big series in the SEC standings.

Key players: Georgia vs. Arkansas
Georgia
Third baseman Ryland Zaborowski
The Skinny: Georgia needs a big weekend from Zaborowski. He is the Dick Howser Trophy National Hitter of the Month for March. He hit a home run on Tuesday in Georgia’s 16-2 win over Presbyterian.
He’s not been as powerful as of late. Foley Field plays to his strengths, while he has been on base a couple of big flies could ignite momentum and give Georgia a boast.
Arkansas
Outfielder Charles Davalan
The Skinny: Davalan is Arkansas’ leader in home runs. Like Zaborowski, he could change games in a moment with a long ball. If Georgia is going to contain the Razorbacks’ offense this weekend, keeping Davalan from hitting the ball over the fence will be a key part of that.

I like Georgia in his match-up. They have power bats, in a ballpark that promotes home runs. The power arms of Georgia’s starters as well as in the bullpen should provide some eye-to-eye challenges for the Razorbacks’ lineup.
Defense and late-game hitting will likely decide who comes out of the weekend with the series win.
Prediction:
Game 1 Arkansas 7-5, Game 2 Georgia 10-7, Game 3 9-8.
