Georgia shortstop Kolby Branch has found his home run swing. The junior flashed his power in 2024. He hit 17 home runs in his sophomore season.

Branch has seen a surge over the last month. He hit his first home run on March 5 against Georgia State. Branch has hit nine more since that night at Foley Field. His batting average has ballooned to .313, which is now fourth on the team.

Branch has also had two games in which he’s hit two home runs in one game. He broke the Bulldogs’ record for two home runs in one inning back on April 8 against Presbyterian.

Branch credits trusting his work.

“It’s just the adjustments that I’ve been making, cages, trusting your approach, trusting your coaches, but mostly just working constantly on your swing, making sure it’s in the right spots,” Branch said. “When you go up there, you don’t have to think about it. You’re making sure your hands are flying and going.”

Branch has hit all over Georgia’s lineup this season. The approach is the same no matter where Branch hits in the lineup. He has led off, hit in the middle of the lineup and in the bottom of the lineup.

Hitting in Georgia’s lineup also allows Branch to be more patient when he’s at the plate.

“Honestly, unless you’re a leadoff, you want to have a go up and draw some pitches, get on base,” Branch said. “It doesn’t matter where you put me in the lineup, I couldn’t care less. We got such a deep lineup, so we’re dangerous wherever you put me or wherever you put anybody else.”

Georgia will host Kennesaw State tonight at 7 p.m. at Foley Field.
