ATHENS, Ga.Kirby Smart is now 1-7 vs Alabama as a head coach after Georgia fell 24-21 on Saturday. It ended a 33-game home win streak for the Bulldogs.

Gunner Stockton completed 13 of 20 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. Chauncey Bowens led the Georgia rushing attack with 12 carries for 119 yards and a score. The Bulldogs rushed for 227 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries.

The Crimson Tide, after forcing a three and out, used its first possession of the game to march right down the field and open the scoring. They used 14 plays to travel 74 yards with Ty Simpson finding Germie Bernard for a six-yard touchdown. The PAT put Georgia in a 7-0 hole, a deficit that only grew from there.

The home team’s second possession saw it move the chains once, but the drive stalled and Georgia punted back to Alabama. It took over at its own 17-yard line and, again, used 14 plays to reach the end zone. This time it was Simpson hitting Isaiah Horton for the score The PAT grew the Crimson Tide lead to 14-0.

This time, Georgia had an answer. On the third play of the ensuing possession, Stockton found Young behind the defense for a 38-yard touchdown. The PAT cut Alabama’s lead to seven points at 14-7.

After the UGA defense mustered its first start of the day, Alabama punted Georgia deep into its own territory. The games only turnover took place two plays later with Nate Frazier fumbling and the Crimson Tide recovering at the Georgia 12-yard line.

The Bulldog defense stood tall, forcing Alabama to kick a field goal after three plays. The 24-yard try was good, growing Alabama’s lead to 17-7.

Georgia used its next possession to cut into that lead with an 11-play drive that covered 75 yards. Bowens punched it in on a toss sweep from two yards out, cutting the Crimson Tide lead to 17-14 with just two minutes and eight seconds left in the half.

Kalen DeBoer’s team quickly jumped into its two-minute offense and reached the end zone for the third time in the first half. This time it was Simpson doing it himself with a two-yard touchdown run and the first half ended with Alabama leading 24-14.

The Crimson Tide got the ball to start the second and got in position to kick a 43-yard field goal. The try missed badly to the left, giving the Bulldogs some momentum, and they capitalized.

The run game led the Bulldogs on a six-play, 74-yard march. A 43-yard run from Dillon Bell was instrumental on the drive as McCray reached the end zone from one yard out. Peyton Woodring’s point after cut Alabama’s lead, again, to just three points.

The next possession saw Alabama move it past midfield, but when it tried to pick up a 4th and 1 at the Georgia 49-yard line, Simpson was stopped in the backfield to turn it over on downs.

UGA could not, however, make use of the great field position. It went three and out after the turnover but it had a chance to take the lead on the second play when Stockton fired a strike to true freshman wideout Talyn Taylor behind the Bama defense. The ball was dropped and Georgia punted two plays later.

It wasn’t the Bulldogs’ last chance to score. After taking over at its own 46-yard line, Georgia put together a march that reached the red zone but it was thwarted when the Bulldogs elected to go for it on 4th and 1 from the Alabama 11-yard line rather than kick the field goal to tie the game. Cash Jones was tackled in the backfield on a puzzling call, giving the ball back to the Crimson Tide with the Bulldogs still trailing by three.
