Stetson Bennett 'Jeopardy' answer, Kirby Smart on Athens pizza

The Stetson Bennett ‘Jeopardy’ answer grew his legendary status just a little bit more.

Georgia spring practice media sessions gave us the opportunity to speak with a few players. Stetson, Kelee Ringo, Warren McClendon and Kirby Smart had the podium.

Here are the most notable quotes from each of them.

Or at least the ones I found to be the most interesting, even if they don’t necessarily have to do with football.

Stetson Bennett’s and Kirby Smart’s responses in particular lightened the mood.

It seemed to be a disappointing day at Georgia spring practice, but both guys still had some positive/lighthearted perspectives to share.

One about a gameshow. And one about pizza.

Let’s roll.

Stetson Bennett ‘Jeopardy’ answer

Stetson Bennett finally made it to the big time.

A National Championship MVP is one thing, but ‘Jeopardy’ is a whole new game, pal.

Stetson Bennett’s response was vintage Mailman.

“I got a text earlier. I hope they got it right. That’s kind of helping them a little bit. I hope the question wasn’t ‘who’s the quarterback?’ because nobody would have gotten that one.”

Stetson self-deprecates with the best of them.

Kelee Ringo on building confidence at Georgia spring practice after Alabama pick-six

Kelee Ringo’s pick-six lives in Georgia football perpetuity.

The challenge is not letting that play define him. He still has football to play at Georgia.

Ringo was a redshirt freshman last season, and struggled at times. He and Kirby Smart believe that moment can give him the confidence to be a better all-around player in Georgia spring practice and beyond.

“Making plays in general can give you a lot of confidence. Just playing within your game, coming to a new stage, learning new techniques and seeing different routes,” Ringo said.

“[You see] things that the receivers and quarterback are trying to do to you. I feel like when you make plays and you’re definitely more comfortable, your confidence skyrockets and I feel like you’re able to play better.”

Warren McClendon gives a glimpse into playing for new o-line coach Stacy Searels

Matt Luke’s departure is arguable one of the bigger stories heading into Georgia spring practice.

Offensive tackle Warren McClendon gave us a glimpse into what it’s like to play for his replacement, Stacy Searels.

“Basically (he) just wanted to keep the tradition of the Georgia offensive line as being physical and tough, playing hard, and being the best unit on the field,” McClendon said.

“That was his main message, he wanted to keep that going. He didn’t want there to be a drop-off from Coach (Matt) Luke to him.”

Kirby Smart on Athens pizza orders

So, the media assemblage had some time to kill waiting for Kirby Smart to take the podium.

We got on a topic of Athens pizza locations. Which ones we like the best. What we order.

Kirby Smart was asked at the tail-end of his availability about his top-three pizza joints in Athens. While Kirby decided to side-step ranking them, he did let us know what he likes to order.

“Man, if I (rank Athens pizza places), I’m going to throw somebody under the bus. My kids could do that. Andrew’s out there somewhere, he could tell you flat-out. I usually get the subs, I get a meatball sub when it’s a pizza place. I’ll eat the leftover pizza the kids don’t eat. And you can tell.”

Kirby Smart refused to be out-self-deprecated by Stetson Bennett.

I promise we are actually asking real football questions during these things.
