ATLANTA, Ga. — The biggest stars of Georgia’s 2022 SEC Championship game victory over LSU have been crowned. The Bulldogs won 50-30 and sixth-year senior quarterback Stetson Bennett was named MVP.

Stetson Bennett caught fire on Georgia’s second possession of the game and by halftime he had connected on 19 of 24 passes for 214 yards and four scores. He finished with 23 completions on 29 attempts for 274 yards and those four scores.

His first touchdown of the day put the Bulldogs up 14-7. He hit Brock Bowers from three yards out. Then he found Ladd McConkey from 22 yards out to make it 21-7 and that one came on the heels of a Georgia interception. Stetson Bennett completed his third touchdown to Darnel Washington on a pass over the middle that covered 14 yards. He found Dillon Bell late in the second quarter from three yards out and that pushed the Bulldog lead to 35-3.

MVP honors are old hat for Stetson Bennett. He was the MVP of Georgia’s Orange Bowl win in the College Football Playoff Semifinals. He lit Michigan up for 313 yards and three touchdowns on the day. He was also the MVP of the National Championship victory over Alabama, tossing two fourth-quarter touchdowns to help the Bulldogs earn the 33-18 win.

Stetson Bennett became the first Georgia quarterback since 2013 to throw for 3,000 yards earlier this season. Aaron Murray had been the last Bulldog to do it. He has thrown for over 3,400 yards on the year with 20 passing touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns.

Georgia is now 13-0 for the first time in school history. It has gone 12-0 in the regular season in back to back years and it is a lock for the College Football Playoff and the No. 1 seed. That likely means a matchup with Ohio State with TCU and Alabama also possibilities as the College Football Playoff committee convenes tonight for its final selections.

The Bulldogs won the 2021 National Championship despite not winning the SEC Championship a year ago. Alabama won last year’s game and got the No. 1 seed with Michigan at No. 2, Georgia at No. 3, and Cincinnati at No. 4.
