A Freshman Feel to Georgia Preseason Camp

It’s been a decidedly buzzy fall camp when it comes to the young pups on the roster in Athens. From the likes of well-known commodities, such as Juan Gaston to Elijah Griffin, and even surprises, such as Rasean Dinkins and JJ Hanne, there’s been plenty for first year players to write home about in terms of their contributions heading into the season. The chatter certainly seems to be going nowhere when it comes to how they’ve fared, and we’re diving in on what that buzz is, who we’re most intrigued by, and what this could mean for Georgia this season. There’s definitely reasons for optimism given how this group is taking to the water.

Cause for Concern at Center?

The Dawgs have been relatively healthy throughout fall camp to this point, a welcomed departure from previous seasons, but being completely unscathed likely isn’t in the cards for any team out there. Georgia is no exception. News came out earlier this week regarding a tight rope surgery and a high ankle sprain for Malachi Toliver, who looked to be taking the lion’s share of reps as the second string center, and as such, the question now bears asking — should you be wringing your hands a bit when it comes to depth at the spot? We look at each and every angle, the players involved in the mix for those reps, and who might make the most sense snapping for Georgia should they be called upon. Some young bucks look to be firmly in the mix for this one.

Second Scrimmage on Deck: What does Georgia need to happen?

The all-important second scrimmage of the fall is set for this Saturday in Sanford Stadium, and there’s much to be learned, particularly with the season creeping up. This one may well determine some key spots, but what do we have circled for our checklist for the weekend? Whether it’s quarterback, safety, offense vs. defense (and who needs the bigger day, we take a look at what Kirby Smart and company will be keeping their fingers crossed for over the course of this one.
