The Georgia coordinators meet the press

Is a kinder, gentler Kirby Smart beginning to emerge toward the media? It may be a fair after four assistant coaches were sent to meet with the Georgia media on Wednesday, and there was plenty be garnered from their responses. First off, it’s quite clear that last year’s offensive performance stuck in the mind of Mike Bobo in a big way, and he was quick to address just what offseason assessment revealed as to the needed steps forward. First and foremost, things have to look different in the running game, an area where the Dawgs found themselves depleted and, at time, unable to block well. Bobo was also quick to dive in on issues that Georgia seemed to face when it came to the ability to put points on the board in the early goings of games. What did we make of his comments and the self examination? Then, we turned to Kirk Benedict, who’s heading up special teams, and seems to be fearless in turning some of Georgia’s top talent loose on his units. Glenn Schumann certainly isn’t scared of that either, and he’s making great use of some incredibly talented transfer talent. Former Army EDGE Elo Modozie was among those discussed at length, and it’s clear that he’s of the makeup to make it in Athens. What’s our man Rusty Mansell heard on his transition since hitting campus? We take a look at that situation, as well as that of the safety next to KJ Bolden, where there are plenty of questions to be answered.

What’s next in recruiting?

Don’t get your hopes up when it comes to the soon-to-drop decision of 2027 EDGE LaDamian Guyton, as that one has been trending Texas Tech for a moment now. That won’t stop the Bulldogs from continuing pursuing, however. Elsewhere, there are still needs to fill when it comes the Class of 2026, and that may well start with offensive tackle and cornerback. A second true bookend for the cycle would be much welcomed, and with uncertainty regarding Chace Calicut, looking toward the defensive backfield doesn’t seem at all out of the question.
