ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Basketball defeated Miami (OH) on Monday night at Stegeman Coliseum 77-70 to move to 2-1 on the season. Bradley transfer Terry Roberts led the Bulldogs in scoring with 22. He was in starring on the night by freshman KyeRon Lindsay who had his first career double-double in just his third game with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Hill also finished in double-figures with 12 points. Meanwhile, Miami’s Mekhi Lairy poured in 34 for the RedHawks to lead all scorers.

Georgia came out strong and jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first 2:58 that included a pair of made 3-pointers from Mardrez McBride and Terry Roberts. Roberts also assisted on an alley-oop to Frank Anselem. Justin Hill would get in on the 3-pointer party before the under-12 timeout to help extend the Bulldog lead to as many as 15 points in the first 10:00 of action.

Miami (OH) fought back some in the second 10:00 before the break including a 7-0 run, but Georgia’s six first-half 3-pointers from five different Dawgs (McBride, Roberts, Hill, Kario Oquendo and Jusaun Holt) was too much to overcome as the Bulldogs went into the locker room up 38-28.

The RedHawks would continue their pesky play into the second half, and in large part, the story was similar to that of the first half. However, this time Miami (OH) was able to get as close as two. A 17-4 stretch that including an 8-0 run got them to a 49-47 game with 11:58 to play. Georgia seemed to get things together though with an 11-4 run of its own that featured some strong play from freshman KyeRon Lindsay and prompted a Miami (OH) timeout.

Together, Lindsay and Roberts accounted for 15 straight Georgia points to get the Bulldogs back up by double-digits by the under-4 TV timeout.

Lindsay would score two more before Hill hit a free-throw to help put the game away. The scoring stretch from Lindsay and Roberts lasted from the 9:10 mark to just 40 seconds remaining in the contest.

While he didn’t play, Georgia super-senior forward Jailyn Ingram did warm up with the team during the pregame. Ingram suffered a torn ACL nine games into last season and has not played since.

Georgia was also without Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe for the second straight game after the Oklahoma State transfer suffered an ankle sprain in the season-opener last week.

The Bulldogs host Bucknell on Friday at Stegeman Coliseum as their on-campus regional round game for the Greenlight Sunshine Slam tournament that Georgia will be a part of in Daytona Beach, Fla. next week. The Dawgs play Saint Joseph’s in the opening round on Monday (8:30 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network) before matching up against the same-result team from the UAB/USF game. Tipoff time for Friday’s game against Bucknell is set for 7:00 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
