It may be way too early for the 2024 Mock Draft season, but that isn’t stopping CBS Sports from taking a stab at how things stand almost halfway through college football’s regular season. Ryan Wilson offered up his latest take on how next April may go, and it’s a bit lighter on Georgia Bulldogs than fans have become accustomed to over the last few years.

Perhaps surprisingly, just two Dawgs land among the ranks for Wilson at this juncture in the year, and the one who he has off the board first may be an even bigger surprise.

That’s because it’s not tight end Brock Bowers but, instead, offensive tackle Amarius Mims who Wilson projects to be selected with the No. 13 overall pick in the first round to the Tennessee Titans.

Of Mims, ranked as CBS Sports’ eighth overall prospect and third-ranked offensive tackle, Wilson says:

“Mims suffered a serious ankle injury vs. South Carolina two weeks ago, and it’s unclear when he’ll return to the field, but expect to see his name in the first-round conversation; he only started one game in 2022, but he flashes special talent. The Titans could stand to upgrade the tackle position, and with the top left tackles off the board, they target a right tackle here.”

Should the 6-foot-7, 340-pound Mims, formerly of Cochran, Georgia’s Bleckley County High School, land there, it would give Georgia two first-round offensive tackles selected in two consecutive drafts assuming it comes to fruition. The Steelers selected Broderick Jones with the No. 14 pick in the 2023 draft.

So, where does that put Bowers on Wilson’s board?

Currently, the junior tight end is slated for the No. 22 spot, which Wilson projects will be a selection by the Los Angeles Chargers.

It’s clear Wilson sees franchises loading up on quarterbacks, pass rushers, and offensive linemen before delving heavily into skill players, as Bowers ranks as the No. 4 overall prospect by CBS and the No. 1 prospect at the tight end position for 2024.

Of Bowers, Wilson says:

“A year ago, we kept trying to give Justin Herbert, Michael Mayer, and Dalton Kincaid in our mock drafts. This time he hits the lottery with Bowers.”

Bowers was the Mackey Award winner for the Class of 2022 and a First Team All-American by the FWAA, ESPN, USA Today and AFCA.

The standout tight end posted a career high 157 receiving yards against Auburn last weekend.
