WATCH: Georgia recognizes Stetson Bennett with personal hype video ahead of Heisman ceremony

Georgia Football releases a hype video every Friday afternoon during football season. This week without a game, you might expect the social media account to be silent. Not so much with quarterback Stetson Bennett in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony as one of four finalists. That deserves an individual hype video titled, ‘Defying the Odds’ narrated by various voices, including Bennett himself, who have spoken about the quarterback over the course of his career.
“Stetson Bennett, interesting story, started his career back in 2017,” the video begins before somebody asks Stetson what it would mean to play at Georgia prior to the start of his career. “I’ve been coming to games here since I was three.”
“When you were three years old you told your dad you’d be the starting quarterback at Georgia,” the video continues with a clip from Holly Rowe’s postgame interview with Bennett after the 2022 National Championship Game. “First you walk on at Georgia, then you go to junior college, what brought you back to Georgia?”
“I love this place. I love this team. I believe in myself. I just love everything about this place and I want to win a National Championship here,” Bennett says as it cuts to him.
“Stetson Bennett getting the call. They call him ‘The Mailman’ so we’ll see if he delivers for Georgia here … Bennett’s been playing better than any quarterback in the nation … This guy deserved a scholarship a few years ago … I think Stetson Bennett is without a doubt the most underrated College Football player in the country,” it continues, bouncing around the various commentators. “Stetson Bennett, does he have it? Yes! (Laughter) … His nickname is ‘The Mailman’ because he always delivers … He plays with a chip on his shoulder … He’s going to go down as one of the greatest Dawgs ever … the best quarterback in Georgia history.”

“Stetson’s one of the least respected good players,” you hear in the video as it shows Georgia coach Kirby Smart at SEC Media Days. “People just keep doubting him, and that’s fine with me.”
“I just counted on myself, kept working,” Bennett says as part of his response to the earlier question about why he would come back to Georgia before the video flashes back once again to the start of his career. “Running out in front of 92,000, I think that’d be pretty sweet.”
It’s certainly a dramatic look back on the career of a player who hasn’t played his last game, but it’s also a deserved one. Bennett is the program’s first Heisman Trophy finalist since 1992. He’s a sixth-year senior, and you can tell by the way he talks that it’s something that’s important to him. So, while it’s not often that the video team dedicates their Friday afternoon to a specific player, Bennett’s moment in the social media spotlight is well deserved and has been a long time coming.
