The Iowa Women’s Basketball team put together a clinical performance on Sunday afternoon defeating the visiting Evansville Purple Aces 119-43 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It’s the largest margin of victory in program history and the most points in a game in program history.

It wasn’t quite an onslaught from the opening tip, but it was close. The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 9-0 lead, with Evansville battling back to 11-7, before an 18-3 run put Iowa in major control after the first quarter. They put up 90 points through three quarters and finished with six players in double figures in the scoring column.

Iowa scored 119 points on 79 possessions (1.506 points per possession), while shooting 42-of-65 (64.6%) from the floor, 14-of-26 (53.8%) from three-point range and 21-of-28 (75.0%) from the free throw line. True freshman Layla Hays led the way with 20 points and five rebounds, while Chit-Chat Wright (16 pts, 10 ast) and Ava Heiden (14 pts, 10 reb) each finished with double-doubles.

Evansville scored 43 points on 79 possessions (0.544 points per possession), while shooting 16-of-61 (26.2%) from the floor, 6-of-24 (25.0%) from three-point range and 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the free throw line. Logan Luebbers Palmer led the Purple Aces with 12 points, while Camryn Runner added 10 points.

The Hawkeyes outrebounded the Purple Aces 50-21, pulling down 41-of-44 (93.2%) defensive rebounds and 9-of-27 (33.3%) offensive rebounds. The turnover battle went in favor of the Hawkeyes, turning it over 13 times to 20 turnovers for the Purple Aces. Iowa outscored Evansville 46-10 in points off turnovers/second chance points.
