A successful in-state road trip. The Iowa Women’s Basketball team went 90 minutes north to Cedar Falls for a matchup with rival Northern Iowa on Sunday afternoon. It was all Hawkeyes, as they rolled to a 74-41 win to move to 4-0 on the young season. Iowa has won 15 of the last 19 meetings against the Panthers by double digits.

The game got off to a slow start, with Northern Iowa attempting to take the air out of the game with lengthy possessions going deep into the shot clock. Those long possessions didn’t translate into many points, as the Hawkeye defense was stifling holding the Panthers to 30.0% shooting in the first half and built a 35-15 halftime lead. Iowa finally got the ball rolling on offense in the second half, putting up 25 points in the third quarter, leading 60-26 heading into the fourth.

Iowa scored 74 points on 69 possessions (1.072 points per possession), while shooting 29-of-64 (45.3%) from the floor, 7-of-24 (29.2%) from three-point range and 9-of-16 (56.3%) from the free throw line. Chit-Chat Wright led the way for the Hawkeyes putting up 19 points on 7/8 shooting, including three made threes. Layla Hays added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Northern Iowa scored 41 points on 71 possessions (0.577 points per possession), while shooting 13-of-57 (22.8%) from the floor, 4-of-21 (19.0%) from three-point range and 11-of-18 (61.1%) from the free throw line. Bri Robinson led the Panthers in scoring with 15 points.

The Hawkeyes outrebounded the Panthers 48-37, pulling down 33-of-46 (71.7%) defensive rebounds and 15-of-39 (38.5%) offensive rebounds. The turnover battle went in favor of the Hawkeyes, turning it over 14 times to 18 turnovers for the Panthers. Iowa outscored Northern Iowa 30-14 in points off turnovers/second chance points.
