Iowa cornerback Brenden Deasfernandes announced today that he plans to enter the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-0, 195-pound Deasfernandes was a backup cornerback who also played on special teams this year for the Hawkeyes. A Michigan native, he had two tackles in 2023.

In his statement, Deasfernandes said, “First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to the University of Iowa for giving me the chance to be a Hawkeye and play football at a level I’ve dreamed of since childhood. I want to also give thanks to the University for shaping me into the person and player I am today.

“After prayer and discussions with my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining. I look forward to discovering what the future holds and starting this new chapter of my life.”

Officially, the transfer portal opens tomorrow, December 4, and players have until January 2, 2024 to enter their name.
