The annual Iowa Baseball Black & Gold World Series continued with Game 2 on Thursday afternoon at Duane Banks Field, with Gold earning a 3-0 win over Black in 6 innings. It sets up a winner takes all Game 3 on Friday afternoon to finish out the fall schedule.

On the mound, true freshman left-hander Brody Irlbeck held the Black offense in check, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings, including six strikeouts to one free base and three hits allowed. Black starter Carter Wilcox got off to a rocky start, giving up four walks and two unearned in the top of the first, but rebounded well retiring the last six batters he faced, including four strikeouts.

At the plate, the two sides combined for just six hits, with Gable Mitchell tallying the only extra base hit, a double to lead off the second inning. Matthew Delgado and Tyler Guerin each recorded sacrifice flies that drove in runs for Gold.

HawkeyeReport caught up with the highly touted freshman, Irlbeck and Wilcox, to discuss their respective starts, working with pitching coach Sean Kenny since their arrival on campus and what they are looking to improve on as the offseason continues.
