Hawkeyes in the NFL: Week Six Top Performers

Week six of the NFL season is complete, with a Monday doubleheader that included Tory Taylor and the Bears getting a win over the Washington Commanders. 29 former Hawkeyes were on active rosters for week six, while 13 players are still in the starting lineup. We take a look at the top three performances from the weekend.
1. Detroit TE Sam LaPorta
Over the last couple of weeks, the Lions have gotten tight end Sam LaPorta the ball a little bit more and good things have happened. Albeit in a losing effort on Sunday Night Football against the Chiefs, LaPorta caught five passes for 55 yards and one touchdown, including a highlight grab in the back of the end zone to cut the KC lead to 20-17 early in the fourth quarter. Over the past two games, Sam has caught ten passes for 147 yards (14.7 ypr) and two touchdowns.
On the season, LaPorta has caught 26 passes for 324 yards, 15 first downs and two touchdowns. At his current pace, he is on track to finish with 73.6 receptions, 918 yards, 42.5 first downs and 5.7 touchdowns.
2. New York DB Dane Belton
An often forgot about former Hawkeye in the NFL, Dane Belton has carved out respectable role in the Giants rotation at safety. He finished with a career-high 56 tackles in that role a year ago and is on track to surpass that this season. In New York’s 34-17 upset win over Philadelphia on Thursday night, Belton finished with seven tackles, one pass broken up and a forced fumble that sealed with game with a couple minutes remaining. Now in his fourth year in the NFL, Dane has recorded five interceptions, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. On the season, Belton has 26 tackles, which has him on track for a career-high 73.7 tackles if he is able to stay on his current pace.

3. Cincinnati DB Geno Stone
The Bengals defense very rarely has something to be happy about and usually when someone makes an exciting play, that someone is defensive end Trey Hendrickson. In Cincinnati’s 27-18 loss to the Packers on Sunday, the defense gave up 409 yards but had Green Bay held to their second-lowest scoring output of the year, before a late field goal sealed the game. Defensive back Geno Stone finished just three tackles, but made a couple of impact plays. He came away with an interception on a tipped pass in the first quarter that cut a Packers drive short in certain field goal range, while he recorded his first career sack in the fourth quarter forcing Green Bay into a 3rd and 10 that they would ultimately convert to salt the game away.
On the season, Stone has 37 tackles, three tackles for loss and one interception. He’s currently averaging 6.2 tackles per game and is on pace to reach 100 tackles for the first time in his career.
