The opening weekend of the NFL season is complete, with the Detroit Lions picking up a win over the Ravens on Monday Night. 27 former Hawkeyes were on active rosters for week three, while 13 players were in the starting lineup. We take a look at the top four performances from the weekend.

1. Philadelphia CB Cooper DeJean

The finish between the Eagles and Rams was a wild one, with Philly blocking the Rams game-winning field goal attempt and returning it for a touchdown. Cooper DeJean didn’t block or return the field goal, but he had a hand in other parts of the game, tallying a team-high nine tackles and one tackle for loss. The Eagles defense held Matthew Stafford to just 196 yards passing, while DeJean was targeted just three times on 34 coverage snaps. Through three games, DeJean has totaled 22 tackles, averaging 7.3 tackles per game.

2. Detroit LB Jack Campbell

In what was a back-and-forth MNF battle between the Lions and Ravens, Jack Campbell made a pretty influential play just before halftime to preserve the Detroit lead. Baltimore opted to go for it on 4th and goal from the two-yard line and Campbell made a big-time play, chasing down Lamar Jackson and forcing a sack-fumble that turned the ball back over to the Lions. He finished with a team-high eight tackles in the game. Through three games, Jack has totaled 26 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

3. Minnesota TE TJ Hockenson

The Vikings dominated the Bengals from start to finish on Sunday and TJ Hockenson was one of many that got in on the fun in their 48-10 win. Hockenson finished with a team-high five catches for 49 yards and a touchdown. His scoring grab came late in the third quarter to extend Minnesota’s lead to 48-3 en route to handing Cincinnati their worst loss in franchise history. Through three games, he has caught just nine passes for 76 yards and one touchdown, but showed some chemistry with backup quarterback Carson Wentz.

4. Denver CB Riley Moss

The only guy on this list who did not get a win this past weekend, Riley Moss still put together a solid performance in the Broncos secondary against the Chargers. In Denver’s 23-20 loss, Moss finished with six tackles, while he allowed just four catches for 65 yards on 12 targets (5.4 ypt). Unfortunately, instead of looking at the fact that he forced eight incompletions, people will look at the fact that he was the one in coverage on Justin Herbert’s game-tying touchdown pass to Keenan Allen, even though he was in perfect position. Through three games, opponents have picked on Moss plenty, targeting him 9.3 times per game. He’s held up well allowing completions on 13-of-28 targets (46.4%) for 176 yards, which is 13.5 yards per reception, but just 6.28 yards per target.
