The Iowa offensive line and Hawkeye program in general is known for producing their fair share of athletic freaks. Usually many of those players over the years have shown up in Bruce Feldman’s annual Freaks List that he compiles prior to the start of the college season.

This year that list has grown to 100 college football players and there are three of them from the University of Iowa, including a pair of expected starting offensive lineman and a redshirt freshman linebacker who is re-writing the record book at his position.

Iowa senior center Logan Jones is 7th on Feldman’s 2025 freaks list. He cites that Jones have posted a program record 705 pound squat this year in the off-season. He also holds the record for center’s with a vertical jump of 36.6 inches, a 4.09 second shuttle, and a 1.53 10 yard split. Jones also has handled a 470 pound hang clean, which is the top number for a center in the program.

One of the surprises was the 22nd name on the list, Kade Pieper. He’s a sophomore who grew up in a small town in Nebraska. His teammates have marveled at his athletic ability in comments to reporters and the numbers verify it. Pieper has the vertical jump record for guards at 37.4 inches and a 1.52 10-yard dash. He also has a 4.13, which is a guard record, in the short shuttle.

The final player from Iowa on the list is a redshirt freshman linebacker who will almost certainly see his first action for the Hawkeyes this fall. That player is Preston Ries, who is from Monticello, IA. In one off-season in the program, he is already re-writing the speed and explosiveness record for his position group. Ries has posted a 630 pound squat, an incredible 41.4 inch vertical jump, and a 1.45 in the 10 –yard dash.
