For the Iowa basketball team the path to victory had to start with improvement on both ends of the floor. It did and mission accomplished as Iowa played with more spirit on defense and shot 54% from the floor in the game on their way to a convincing 88-52 victory over Florida A&M at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Three freshmen for the Hawkeyes stood out in the win. Owen Freeman had his first double-double in an Iowa uniform with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Brock Harding and Ladji Dembele has career highs with 10 and 9 points. Following the win, Payton Sandfort and Harding spoke to the media about their effort on defense, which in many ways fueled the success on the offensive end of the floor.

Then we also heard from Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery, who discussed the better effort of helping each other on defense and moving and sharing the basketball on the offensive end of the floor and how that helped them to an easy win.
