Penn State dominates Iowa

The Penn State white out lived up to the hype and delivered a white wash of the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday night in Happy Valley. A series of turnovers and mistakes proved costly as the Nittany Lions routed the Hawkeyes 31-0.
Iowa had their chances to make this a game in the first half, but turnovers and unforced errors were too much to overcome. The Hawkeyes were moving the football well on the initial drive of the game, including a 20 yard reception by Erick All. But, All stumbled on a screen pass and the drive ended.
They were in business once again after stuffing a Penn State drive and took over at the 48 yard line. Cade McNamara found Erick All for a 12 yard gain on second down, but the Iowa tight end had the ball knocked loose and it proved to be an opportunity lost.
Penn State then mounted a long scoring drive that ate up nearly seven and a half minutes of time on the clock and put three points on the board.
Early in the second quarter, an unforced error was costly to Iowa. The Hawkeyes had forced a punt, but unfortunately that kick hit reserve defensive back Brenden Deasfernandes in the back. The Nittany Lions recovered the mistake and capitalized with a nine yard touchdown strike to make it 10-0 early in the second quarter.

That’s where things stood at the break, but they went downhill fast in the rain and State College. The Nittany Lions took the opening kickoff of the second half on another methodical drive down the field against an Iowa defense that spent far too much time on the field.
Drew Allar, who was 25-37 in the game for 166 yards and four touchdowns, found Tyler Warren for the first of two touchdown receptions to make it 17-0. Iowa went three and out once again and Penn State capitalized with Allar finding Warren to make it 24-0 at the end of the third quarter.
The hits and the turnovers just kept on coming for Iowa. Cade McNamara was hit and fumbled on a pass play and the Nittany Lions recovered. Once again they cashed in on the Iowa mistake, this time with a touchdown pass to KeAndre Lambert-Smith to make it 31-0.
The Hawkeyes will try to bounce back from this one-sided defeat next Saturday when they host Michigan State. The game will be broadcast on NBC starting at 6:30 p.m.
