Former Hawkeye Cody Ince passes away

A tragedy struck the Iowa football family this past weekend with the sudden passing of Cody Ince. The former Hawkeye offensive lineman had left the Iowa program in the spring of 2022 due to a number of injuries during his career.
Ince, who is from Wisconsin, was a three star recruit according to On3.com’s consensus rankings, committed to the Hawkeyes in June of 2017 and was part of their 2018 recruiting class.
After redshirting in his freshman year, Ince saw action in 11 games in his redshirt freshman campaign. In his sophomore and junior seasons, Ince played in 18 games, starting 10 of them. In 2020, he played in all eight games and started six of them at left guard. The following year, he started four games at guard, but the injuries took a toll on him and decided to end his football career.
Ince was recently engaged and a cause of death was not revealed, other than it was sudden. His funeral will take place near his home in Wisconsin. His obituary asks, in lieu of flowers, for donations in Ince’s name to the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa football program issued a statement on Tuesday morning regarding the passing of Ince.
“I am incredibly sad to hear about Cody Ince’s sudden passing. Cody was a tremendous young man, valued teammate, and contributor to our program. He loved football, fishing and hunting, and believed in the importance of family and friendships. Cody was just beginning this next chapter of his life and was about to be married. Mary and I are heartbroken for his fiancée, his family and all his friends who knew and loved him. All of us in the football program – his coaches and teammates – are mourning his loss.”
