Hawkeyes dominate Badgers

Wisconsin put a lot of off-season focus on the Iowa Hawkeyes and trying to win back the Heartland Trophy. None of that motivation worked on Saturday evening as Iowa dominated the action on the field at Camp Randall Stadium on their way to a 37-0 victory over Wisconsin.
With the win, Iowa moves to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. The Badgers drop to 2-4 and 0-3 on the season in league play.
Iowa opened the scoring on their second drive of the game. It was an 11 play drive that was keyed by a nice 24 yard run by freshman running back Nathan McNeil. However, the Hawkeye drive stalled out and they had to settle for a 32 yard field goal by Drew Stevens to make it 3-0.
Two plays into their second drive of the game, Wisconsin quarterback Hunter Simmons had his pass tipped by Iowa defensive lineman Brian Allen and intercepted by defensive tackle Bryce Hawthorne. It was his first interception of his Iowa career and the Hawkeyes took over at the 24 yard line of the Badgers.
From there. Iowa moved quickly. Mark Gronowski completed a 14 yard pass to Sam Phillips down to the six yard line. Kamari Moulton then ran six yards into the end zone for a 10-0 lead in the first quarter for the visitors.
The turnovers continued for the Badgers on their next drive. Two plays into the drive, Aaron Graves picked off a pass and nearly rumbled into the end zone. He was ruled down at the one yard line. One play later, Gronowski plunged into the end zone and was quickly 17-0 in the first quarter.
Another turnover in the second quarter set up another scoring opportunity for the Hawkeyes. This time it was a fumble recovery by Zach Lutmer and that was after Gronowski had thrown an interception on the final play of the first quarter.
Iowa put together a very solid drive, mostly on the ground with the legs of Kamari Moulton. But, the drive stalled inside the ten and Stevens hit his second field goal of the game, this time from 23 yards away for a 20-0 lead.

The Hawkeyes had one more drive in them before halftime. This time it was perhaps their best drive of the day with Gronowski connecting on six of six passes. That included the first two receptions for Reece Vander Zee this season. Stevens hit his third field goal of the game for a 23-0 lead at the half.
On their first possession of the second half, Iowa added to their scoring total. Iowa went 59 yards, all of it on the ground, and it was capped by Xavier Williams busting off the right side for a 29 yard score and a 30-0 edge for the Hawkeyes.
In the fourth quarter, Iowa added to their point total. For the second time in the second half it was Williams, this time from 19 yards out and a 37-0 lead.
For the day, Iowa rushed for 210 yards and averaged a robust 5.8 yards per carry against the Badger defense that came into the game allowing just 75 yards per game and 2.9 yards per carry.
Iowa will return home for their next game to face Penn State on Saturday evening. Kickoff is set for 6 pm and will be broadcast on Peacock.
