Hawkeyes roll past Broncos
Coming off a hard fought loss on Thursday evening to in-state rival Iowa State, one might wonder what kind of an effort that the Iowa Hawkeyes might bring to the court on Sunday against Western Michigan.
The answer was a very good one. Iowa throttled the Broncos right out of the gate, scoring the first eight points of the game and rolling to a 91-51 victory on Sunday afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
With the victory, Iowa moves to 9-2 on the season. The Hawkeyes will be off until next Saturday when they will host Bucknell at Casey’s Arena in Des Moines. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
Iowa started fast on a chilly Sunday afternoon. Bennett Stirtz and Cooper Koch hit three pointers out of the gate and Cam Manyawu followed with a bucket of his own to force a Western Michigan timeout.
Western Michigan finally got on the board with their first five points, but eventually the Hawkeyes really put on a run. This time it was a 15-0 streak that included back to back three point field goals from Tate Sage, buckets from Kael Combs, and an old fashioned three pointer from Stirtz put Iowa up 34-10. Stirtz finished the day 13 points and a season low 24 minutes of action.

Brendan Hausen came off the bench to hit a three point field goal and complete it with a free throw for a four point play to put Iowa up 46-16 late in the first half. He finished with 13 points in the game.
The Hawkeyes scored the last nine points of the half to lead 52-16 at the break. Then they scored the first six of the second half and the lead grew to 58-16 after Koch hit another three pointer. Hausen kept the scoring going with a three to make it 71-23. Koch hit his third three of the game and the lead reached fifty points at 79-29.
From there the Hawkeyes and the Broncos played out the string with Hausen draining a couple more three pointers in the rout. Iowa finished the game shooting 56% from the game and made 14 of 31 from beyond the three point arch.
