There were moments throughout the match where it looked like the Hawkeyes might be primed for a breakthrough, but it never came. Despite being the better side the whole night, the 10th-ranked Iowa Soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Loyola-Chicago at the Loyola Soccer Park on Thursday night.

It was a mostly quiet opening half, with a couple of moments for each side. The Hawkeyes best look at a goal came in the 43rd minute off the foot of Olivia Lebdaoui. A long pass played into the box from Berkley Binggeli led to a race to the ball by Lebdaoui and Loyola GK Allison Deardorff. Lebdaoui floated one on goal, but defender Mia Lanni was able to clear it off the line just in time.

Two chances defined the second half for the Hawkeyes. A couple of opportunities to break the goalless tie, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Off of a Loyola goal kick in the 73rd minute, Iowa won the 50/50 ball in the midfield and Olivia Lebdaoui chipped one forward for Shae Doherty who got in behind the Ramblers back line. Loyola defender Catherine Cline kept on the hip of Doherty and forced a rushed shot that went wide of the goal.

The best chance of the entire match came in the 79th minute. Price Loposer pushed a ball into the box for Kelli McGroarty who had found some space in front of the goal. However, McGroarty was unable to settle the high and tough to control bounce in time and Allison Deardorff was able to knock the ball out of harm’s way.

A late chance on a corner kick for the Ramblers struck some fear of a last second winner into the Hawkeyes, but it wasn’t to be for Loyola, as the ball in from Angelina Perritano was handled accordingly with a header out of the box. The Iowa defense held the Ramblers to a season-low nine shots, including just two shots on goal.
