The Iowa Women’s Basketball team picked up their third commitment for the class of 2024 last week with the addition of Verona Area High School 5’9 PG Taylor Stremlow. She committed to the Hawkeyes over Illinois, Wisconsin and Penn State. Stremlow also held offers from Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, DePaul, Toledo, Marquette, Colorado State, Providence, Montana State, San Francisco and St Thomas.

“I got to visit all four schools and all of them have an amazing staff and team, but I just felt most at home at Iowa,” said Stremlow. “I clicked with the team and the staff and just loved being there.”

What the Hawkeyes are getting in Stremlow?

Prep Girls Hoops rates Stremlow as the #4 player in the state of Wisconsin for the class of 2024. As a freshman at Verona in 2020, Taylor averaged 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game for a Wildcats team that made it to the WIAA DI State Tournament. She went for 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists in state semifinal game. Last season, she was out for the season after one game due to a fractured bone in her foot.

Stremlow returned from injury for the 2022 AAU season with Wisconsin Flight Elite to display impressive ball handling skills, as well as the ability to attack the basket off the dribble and dish to her teammates for basket. She can also shoot it from outside.

Brady Peterson of Prep Girls Hoops has seen her play and had this to say about her game.

“I saw her play for the first time at Summer Jam in June, and there’s no way she was at 100%, but she was one of the most creative kids at the event. She sees passing lanes that nobody else does and is one of the strongest guards I’ve seen. She’ll go through her defender.”

This season for the Wildcats, Stremlow has stepped up her game and is averaging an astounding 8.6 steals per game to go along with 16.4 points, 9.3 assists and 9.6 rebounds. She has logged two quadruple-doubles on the year, as well as three triple-doubles. Last time out against UConn commit KK Arnold’s Germantown team, Stremlow went for 27 points in a 74-73 loss.

Here are some highlights from the matchup…

We caught up with Stremlow to discuss her commitment to the Hawkeyes…

Q: What does it mean to you to commit to a school that has the fan support that Iowa WBB has?

STREMLOW: The fan support at Iowa is super exciting. I’ve been to a handful of games and the enviroment is electric. The fans and community make me even more excited to get there and eventually play in front of them.

Q: What is your relationship like with the coaching staff and how much has it grown and changed over the course of your recruitment?

STREMLOW: I would consider my relationship with the staff very authentic and fun. I think the coaches are all amazing women and I love talking with them.

Q: How do you see yourself fitting in with the style of offense that Iowa runs?

STREMLOW: They run a very fast paced offense, which I think I will fit into very well and I am very excited to play in it.

Q: What things are you focusing on the most when it comes to improving your game before you come to Iowa in 1.5 years?

STREMLOW: I will be working a lot on every aspect of my game, but specifically I want to improve my shooting and quickness.

Q: Is there a sense of relief that you’re done with your recruitment and you can focus on the rest of your high school career?

STREMLOW: There’s definitely a sense of relief and gratitude being done with it all. The recruiting process was very crazy, but it was such an amazing experience that very few people get to go through. I am so thankful for the relationships I’ve formed and people that I’ve met through it. However, being committed and being sure in my decision was the end goal, so being able to fulfill that goal is very relieving.

Q: I saw 2024 commit Callie Levin tweet in response to your commitment. Is she someone that you have talked to already? Is it important to start relationships like that early?

STREMLOW: Yes, I highly value my relationships with teammates and coaches, so staying in touch with my future teammates is definitely something important to me. I’ve chatted with both Callie (Levin) and Ava (Heiden) and I’m super excited to get to know them better and eventually play with them.
