On Sunday afternoon Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder asked for prayers for starting guard Molly Davis, who crumpled to the ground in the first half of the Hawkeyes win over Ohio State.

Davis was carried off the Carver-Hawkeye Arena court after sustaining what appeared to be a significant knee injury in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter, Davis returned to the court area, but she was in a wheelchair with her right leg fully wrapped in a bandage.

After the game, in addition to asking for prayers for her senior guard, Bluder said she didn’t know the extent of the injury, but hoped to know more on Monday.

That news came on Monday and it was much more positive than expected.

During her radio show on Monday, Bluder said that Davis suffered a “severe injury to her kneecap”. But, Bluder said that they feel that the injury is not season ending. Davis will start physical therapy this week with hopes of potentially returning to the court for the NCAA Tournament.

Iowa will play without Davis this week in the Big Ten Tournament taking place in Minneapolis. The Hawkeyes will then have a full week off before the NCAA Tournament field is announced and then nearly a full week before returning to action, likely at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

This season she has emerged as a starter in the Iowa backcourt. She started 27 of the 30 games this year, averaging 6.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. This season she has also dished out 93 assists and had three assists in 18 games this year. Davis shot 40.7% from three point range and 85.7% from the foul line.
