Waukee Northwest wide receiver Isaiah Oliver, whose father Dean Oliver played basketball at Iowa, earned a preferred walk-on opportunity from the Hawkeye football program on Friday. For the 6-foot-0, 195-pound Oliver, it was a dream come true.

“It means so much to me,” Oliver told HawkeyeReport.com. “It is a dream to play at the Big Ten level. It is also so fun just because of all the personal connections I have to the school. This opportunity is extremely humbling and exciting.”

As a junior, Oliver had a productive year for Waukee Northwest with 36 catches for 430 yards and six touchdowns. That helped him earn scholarship offers from South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota, North Dakota State, and Northern Iowa, but now the opportunity from Iowa is on the table it may be too good to pass up.

“I’m going to visit (Iowa City) tomorrow,” said Oliver. “I was planning to camp at Kansas State on Sunday but have cancelled that.”
