Iowa Western Community College wide receiver Jackson Naeve is headed back home to Iowa City. On Thursday, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Regina graduate announced that he has accepted a preferred walk-on opportunity from the Hawkeyes after attending their camp.

“The feeling is just amazing,” Naeve told HawkeyeReport.com. “This is something I’ve worked my whole life for is an opportunity just like this.”

Naeve, who played at Iowa Western in 2024, will be enrolling at the University of Iowa right away this summer and joining the Hawkeyes for the upcoming 2025 season. After running a 4.46 forty at Iowa’s camp and impressing the coaching staff, it seems like a natural fit.

“I think I just showed them that I am a guy that can be a reliable player and someone who is coachable and willing to do what it takes to help the team win,” said Naeve.

Former Hawkeye wide receiver Ed Hinkel, who is an assistant coach at Iowa City Regina, definitely agrees with that sentiment and sees a player that can hold his own at the next level as he continues to develop.

“He’s a great player and a great kid,” said Hinkel. “He really grew into his body over the last year and has worked his tail off to become stronger and faster. He was a hell of a player for us at Regina, and there’s no doubt in my mind he could make an impact at Iowa.”

Coming in, Naeve will have at least three years of eligibility remaining – maybe four depending on what the courts decide on junior college prospects – plus a redshirt year still available.
