It doesn’t take long listening to freshman Layla Hays talk to realize that she has found her home away from home in Iowa City. Despite moving over 3,000 miles from where she grew up in Wasilla, Alaska, Hays seems to be fitting in well with the Hawkeyes this summer. She’s already developed a great relationship with her post teammate Ava Heiden, as the two underclassmen work against each other each practice and Hays has made strides with her game over the past month.

After practice on Tuesday, the freshman center met with the media, discussing her growth from day one of practice until now, working alongside of Ava Heiden and how the coaching staff found her in Alaska.
