The number of Iowa women’s basketball players on a WNBA roster continues to grow. This year one more was added when it was announced that Lucy Olsen had made the season opening roster for the Washington Mystics.

Olsen was a second round pick this year and the 23rd overall. One year ago, Iowa added two players to their WNBA resume when Caitlin Clark was the first overall pick by the Indiana Fever and Kate Martin made the Las Vegas Aces after being a second round selection.

This past season was Olsen’s only year with the Iowa women’s basketball team. She averaged 17.9 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds this year. She led the team in made field goals (216), including knocking down 54 three-pointers and totaling 162 assists. Olsen scored 20+ points in 13 games, including a season-high 32 points. She earned First Team All-Big Ten honors and helped the Hawkeyes to a 23-11 overall record.

Prior to playing for the Hawkeyes. Olsen was a standout player at Villanova. In her final year with the Wildcats, she emerged as a star, averaging 23.3 points per game, earning Most Improved Player in the Big East, along with first team conference honors. She was also an honorable mention All American for Villanova.

Iowa will now have four players on WNBA teams heading into the season. In addition to Olsen, Clark, and Martin, who is now with the new Golden State franchise, Megan Gustafson is also still with the Las Vegas Aces. She is currently sidelined with an injury, but hopes to be back on the court very soon.
