Sam Petersen, Blake Guerin speak at Iowa Baseball media day
The Iowa Baseball team is ranked #20 in the preseason D1Baseball Top 25. That is due in large part to their uber talented pitching staff, but their lineup returns six of the nine starters from the NCAA Regional opener last season. Sam Petersen returns to the lineup after putting up a .319 batting average, including nine doubles, 11 home runs and 47 RBI’s. This season, Petersen looks primed to become, not only the top hitter in the Iowa lineup, but one of the top hitters in the Big Ten. As for sophomore Blake Guerin, he accumulated just 31 at-bats last season, but is set to take over the starting job at first base with Brennen Dorighi gone.
Both Petersen and Guerin met with the media on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the upcoming season. Sam Petersen spoke about his finger injury last season and the motivation that comes from playing less than a full season, as well as what he tried to improve on with his swing over the offseason. Blake Guerin spoke about learning from Brennen Dorighi last season, having a successful summer in the Appalachian League and his mindset coming into the season as a new starter.
