In the Big Ten, every series is important, but when it’s the Hawkeyes and Huskers, there’s a little bit more juice than the average three-game weekend. Iowa won two of three on the weekend, bringing their overall record to 23-11, while they still hold the top spot in the conference standings with a 14-4 mark.
On Friday, Iowa needed just a single run, with a Kooper Schulte second inning solo home run holding up for a 1-0 series opening victory. Cade Obermueller was fantastic, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings, while Anthony Watts recorded the final six outs out of the bullpen.
The Hawkeyes clinched the series on Saturday with a come from behind 11-6 victory. Trailing 6-5 going into the bottom of the eighth, Iowa exploded for six runs, including a three-run home run from Andy Nelson. A Rick Heller Era record 2,654 fans were in attendance.
