For all the anticipation and the excitement, the first game of the Ben McCollum era could not have gone much better. The Iowa Men’s Basketball team opened the 2025-26 campaign with a 101-69 win over Robert Morris on Tuesday night. Iowa has won 15 consecutive season-openers dating back to the 2011-12 season.
McCollum’s team was energized from the start and showed a lot of intensity that turned into offense the other end. A 17-2 run to begin the game put the Colonials in a hole that they never escaped from. Iowa led 49-26 at the half and shot 61.7% from the floor for the game, rolling to a 101-69 victory. Six Hawkeyes scored in double figures led by Bennett Stirtz (19), Tavion Banks (17) and Alvaro Folgueiras (11).
