The Iowa Men’s Basketball team kicked off a big weekend in Iowa City with a 77-58 win over Western Illinois on Friday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It’s the sixth consecutive season that the Hawkeyes have started the season with a 2-0 record.

A new look Western Illinois team hung around early in the first half, with Idaho State transfer Isaiah Griffin pacing the Leathernecks with 14 points. It was only a 41-33 halftime advantage for the Hawkeyes, but they broke it open with a 13-3 run in the second half and that was that. Bennett Stritz led the way with 24 points and seven assists to zero turnovers, while Alvaro Folgueiras tacked on 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Hawkeyes knocked down ten three-pointers, with six different players recording a made three.
