Rick Heller recaps Iowa Baseball's win over Iowa Western

The Iowa Baseball team wrapped up their fall exhibition schedule on Friday night with a matchup against Iowa Western. Rick Heller’s squad racked up 17 hits in a 15-2 win over the Reivers in 14 innings. The Hawkeyes outscored their three exhibition opponents by a combined score of 47-3.
Offensively, five hitters tallied multiple hits, with Loras College transfer Daniel Rogers leading the way with three hits and two RBI’s. Southeastern CC transfer Kooper Schulte had two hits, including a double and four RBI’s. Missouri transfer Jackson Beaman hit a 414-foot two-run home run to centerfield in the 14th inning.

On the mound, Cade Obermueller got the start, tossing two scoreless innings, including five strikeouts and 72% strikes thrown. Reece Beuter finished off a perfect fall, retiring all six batters he faced over 2.0 innings. He retired all 15 batters he faced over the three fall exhibitions. In total, the Iowa pitching staff racked up 23 strikeouts to six walks and allowed just five hits over 14.0 innings.
Up Next: The Hawkeyes will finish up the fall with the Black & Gold World Series next week. Game one is set Wednesday after at 3:30pm at Duane Banks Field. Rosters are still TBA.
